This beginner-friendly course is your passport to the vibrant world of Ashkenazi language, culture, and folklore — from the shtetl to the silver screen, from lullabies to revolution songs.

Echoes of Yiddish: Language and Culture for Beginners (Taught in English)

🧠 What You’ll Learn (and Kvell About!)

Come explore the language that shaped the daily lives, dreams, and humour of Ashkenazi Jews for centuries. To truly understand the history and soul of the Jewish people, you need to hear it in Yiddish.

• You’ll read and write basic modern Yiddish ✍️
• Understand Yiddish grammar, morphology & syntax 🧩
• Be exposed to Yiddish culture, folklore, and everyday expressions 🎭📜

No prior Yiddish required! Only curiosity, a sense of humour,

and maybe a love for gefilte fish.

3. Payment Details 
   Course fees are calculated by BIU credits: 2 credits = 1,305 NIS. For example, 3 credits = 3,915 NIS (plus any credit card fees).
4. Enrollment Process 
   Once enrolled, you will have about 4 hours to access the student system, make the payment, and secure your spot. If payment is not completed within this timeframe, your registration will expire.
5. Payment Procedure (Inbar System) 
   Payments are made via the Inbar system. Please register and create a new password here: https://inbar.biu.ac.il/live/Login.aspx.
