Hasidic Literature

In this track, students will explore Hasidic literature of the 18th and 19th centuries and the development of various genres in Hasidic writing. The poetics of Hasidic literature will be studied employing a multi-disciplinary approach that combines philosophy with classic textual and literary criticism. Students will research the Hasidic revival of today and the Hasidic writing of the 20th and early 21st centuries in the context of traditional Hasidic society, New Age trends and contemporary neo-Hasidic movements. The Schneiderman Chair for Hasidism supports research in this field.
