Overview

The primary aim of the international conference "Russian-Israeli Literature in the Context of World Literature: History, Poetics, Theory" is to consider Russian-Israeli literature from various theoretical and poetic views on the scale of global literary processes, as well as in connection with the most significant historical upheavals from the Russian Revolution and Civil War (1917-1921) to the Russian invasion of Ukraine (2022). The three-day conference will bring together more than twenty experts from Israel, USA, Germany, France and other countries in the field of literature in Russian, Hebrew, and other languages. Their joint work within conference sessions will allow to illuminate the main aspects of the history of Russian-Israeli literature, understand its main themes and poetic techniques that it uses, determine theoretical approaches for studying this literature, and give a new, broader, and more profound look at Russian-Israeli literature as a subject of research.

The program includes the presentation of the collection of articles Studies in the History of Russian-Israeli Literature (Boston: Academic Studies Press, 2023), with the special guest, the writer David Markish; and a round table on the subject “War: understanding the catastrophe” with the participation of writers Elena Makarova and Anna Fain.

The conference will end with a performance by the Russian-language Israeli theater ZERO.

* The language of the conference is Russian
